About to renew my coolant and want to know if there is a proper way to drain the system, last time i did it i just had a fast idle with the cap off the header tank and just get topping it up as it overflowed and whacked the heaters on to really get it around the system, left it overnight till cool and topped it up if it needed it to, then re topped it up everynow and again. but its a dirty colour so needs renewing
Is there a proper way of doing it or this way ok?

Bottom hose off, header tank cap off. Stick a hose in the header tank to try and flush the dirty stuff out, then bottom hose back on and refill.

yeh lift bonnet up, then look down and you should see the bottom hose at the bottom obviously and it should be held on by a jubilee clip, undo clip and pull hose out then water will piss out then thats it your done

- so bottom hose off the radiator and drain.
- Fill header with water and run engine so pulls water through and top up as required.
- Once clean water comes through, switch off engine and allow that water to drain.
- Replace pipe
- Fill header with coolent mix and run engine and top up as required.
- Run engine to a bout 98 degrees to boil over to get rid ofairlock if present.
- keep topping up header tank
- Leave to cool and topp up if required
that right?

No need to let it overheat like that. Just leave the header tank cap off with the engine running and squeeze the radiator hoses, that should take any air pockets out of the system.
