Mum is looking to change from Virgin Media and has looked at going with sky as the package deals.
What is the sky broadband like?

i also have sky bb. 8mb unlimited connection.
Until tonight i have been getting around 1.5-2mb/s on speedtest.
Read something about taking wires out of phone socket, and only leaving the no 2 and 5 wire in, and its gone to 4mb/s instantly.

All ADSL line speeds will depend on the quality of the cable in your area, some providers will be slightly faster than others but it'll hardly be noticeable.

not got the link now. But all you do is remove the front cover and plug into the test socket. Re rest connection. If its any better check the wires going into main socket. Only needs to be the blue and the white and blue in pins 2 and 5. Remove any other's. Check all other sockets and make sure only them 2 wires

That's not how it works, although the line length and quality will affect the synch speeds the actual speeds you get can vary massively from provider to provider.
Sky and O2 are both good options.
