My sister has been on my computer and when it was booting up its come up with a blue screen scanning the hard drive thing or something. She has canceled this and now most of the programs are missing as well as lots of other stuff, it wont let me open certain files and it wont install things.
Help Its win XP if it makes a difference!

Sounds like ScanDisk was checking for something, cancelling it has obviously caused some problem.
As you are a puter noob I assume by default that System Restore hasnt been disabled, so I would try that first
start -> Help and Support - > Search for system restore, it will guide you the rest of the way

Firstly try System Restore.
Download Malware Bytes and AVG Free. Install and update both.
Kick off a scan for each. If you fail, boot the PC into Safe mode and repeate.
Those drive-by viruses are getting quite common amung Facebook.
Also kick off scan disk.

Ah yes sorry, should have said, i tried sytem restore but thats one of the things thats missing! I found something online to launch it from the c: prompt thing but it comes up with an error message. There are restore points there, i made one just a couple of weeks ago.

From the command prompt, type:
chkdsk c:/r
If no command prompt go to run and then type cmd followed by enter

sounds like its going to be quite a bit of hassle to get sorted, and even if you do it still probs wont be 100%.
My recommendation would be to get logged on to the computer, back up all of your important shiz, get yourself a windows cd (or a restore cd if it come with the laptop) and FORMAT... this is the easy way out and will restore you laptop to the day you bought it. You can then restore your backed up files.

I sorted it
Put the xp disc in with the computer on and it came up with an option to 'repair.' Done that and about an hour later everything i had lost was back! woop
