3G can be had for around for around Ł200/250 quid, whilst the 3GS is still Ł350-420 second hand. Although i'll agree that the 3GS is certainly faster it isn't another Ł150 quid faster and the feature difference is minimal - compass, video editing (isn't that great), voice control (about as good as it is on a macbook, which is ok at best), better camera (is a little better), improved HSDPA (worth having especially if you're in a big city, downloads are a fair bit quicker) etc
If getting it on a contract then yeah obviously get the 3GS, if buying (second hand) then i'd still recommend the 3G as you won't be missing out much.

Orange to sell iPhone in UK
Orange UK and Apple have reached an agreement to bring iPhone 3G and 3GS to Orange UK customers later this year. Orange globally now offers iPhone in 28 countries and territories.
Orange, which has the largest 3G network covering more people in the UK than any other operator, will sell iPhone in all Orange direct channels including Orange shops, the Orange webshop and Orange telesales channels, as well as selected high street partners. A pre-registration site for customers to log their interest has been launched at www.Orange.co.uk/iPhone
More information on pricing, tariffs and availability dates will be released in due course.

it is a fantastic thing for the uk customers now as they have more choice for who to go with.
Orange Mobile (the orange/tmob venture) will now be potentially the best uk mobile network and will put the likes of o2 and voda in the shade.
interesting times!

Its likely the next model will be around the corner come july.. they're on par for a new release each mid year so far....
I got a 3G at the moment, but really want a 3GS and my contract isnt up until Feb.
Im considering getting the 3GS on PAYG for the time being and upgrading if/when the next model comes out.
Its alot of money to shell out though, money I could spend on better things

this is why you go down the simplicity route.....
i'm suprised they are planning to extend the iphone to orange, can't see O2 being too happy about this although i agree with the shite contract tarrifs but i can't see orange being any better tbh (but orange is really toss around here for signal, barely just get an O2 signal).

It wasn't really a secret when the exclusivity agreement was up.
I'm surprised at the though, thought it was crap and losing o2 business
