I've just wound my cheapy FK coilovers down from about -45mm to about -55mm, and they're banging loudly when I go over bumps, especially when I've got a passenger with me. They weren't making any noises before I wound them down more, could they be bottoming out? Will it be doing any damage or should I just turn the radio up and ignore it?

jack the car up and have a look? will be a rubber bung on the piston, if it is not present you should strip them and insert one.

Also you want 270 - 280lb springs for an XE or so I've heard

I've just had a look, can't see that well in this light though. Should it be up by the top mount or just above where the thread for adjusting height ends?

Here are my spax dampers striped down (same principle as your coilovers)

the black rubber on the shiny piston is the bump stop. It is free to move up and down the piston but if present on your set up will be sitting against the damper body due to gravity.

no problem, if you are really low you may want quite short ones around 30-40mm

Yeah, I've got some chopped down standard ones out of some old 40mm shocks and springs, I've put them in now so I'll see how that goes tomorrow.

moka - what does the blue bearing do?? I think I chucked them away :s
