OK, I'm after a cheap WiFi router for my girlfriends house, they have quite an old computer running on XP and using AOL... what's good, and very cheap... she wants one so she can use her laptop in her room and log on 
Also, I wouldn't mind one as my one at home broke and Sky are bing less than useless about it all in tryign to fix it

Also, does their pc need to have a wifi card? it can be connected directly to their pc if needs be

I presume this needs to be a modem also actually :S
i want it to be the only thing they use like, altho not strictly necessary if its cheap enoguh :S

I have the same router but without the VOIP and I have to say it's much more reliable than any Netgear router I've ever used (or Sky branded Netgear routers as well for that matter).

Either a WiFi network card in the PC
(or a USB WiFi card) or just run an Ethernet between a port on the router and the ethernet port on the pc

I have a brand new Sky(Netgear) one you can have here for £5 + delivery costs if your interested?.
PS: I also have a fully working Belkin 54G router with power adapter. (non boxed, no network leads, filters etc....)

Why would the desktop need to be wireless if its currently working wired? 
Just buy a wireless modem router, RJ45 cable between it and the PC, WiFi for everything else. Simple.
Never had any trouble with my Netgear router.

Not sure if it's still the case, but AOL set up used to be different to most other ISPs...

I'm not sure why people are recommending Netgear to Robbo... His Sky router is a Netgear and is obviously shit, like pretty much all Netgears I have owned and used (including DG834G/GT etc.)

Sky put on there own software. I have no issues with Netgear DG384 on other ISPs or on my Sky line. My issues are with not being able to have static IPs from Sky. The Netgear software and Sky software does what most users require. It's more to do with user error 
I work in IT support, and will be putting on another Netgear DG384 at my new place, just not using Sky as an ISP. The thing even does site to site VPN, what more do you want for £40 If you need more features then it's time for a managed switch, firewall such as monowall /sonicwall or going Cisco.
If you're using Sky as an ISP then you will need to telnet onto the router to obtain the username and password as Sky will not give you these details. Give me a shout if you need help with this.
