just got the red light of death...
i know its pretty ducked at this point, just wondering is there any way of getting the data
off the hard drive, and the game out of the drive?

Just happened to mine last night mate. You could take it apart but you will void the warranty if you do. Plenty of info on the net if you do some google searching.
It just needs the hard drive replacing

tried searching but just keep finding guides to fix it that i have to pay for...
its under warranty so getting it replaced isnt a prob, just wanted to know can they put all my game saves etc back on when they fix it, or should i do it somehow

also its a 60gig one that plays all old ps one and two games, will it still play them?

removing the hard drive doesn"t void the warranty iirc, that might have changed so check if you do.
There were a lot of guides on upgrading the hdd. It's sata so if you remove it i'd imagine you can ghost it onto a pc and copy it to a new one when you get it.

It should tell you how to remove the HDD in the instruction manual

may sound like a daft question, but i take it all the PS3 operating software is off the hard drive then? so you can just change the hdd and turn on a play?

I haven't looked into it so I don't know but it may have some internal built-in memory with either the OS or an installation file on it. Both make sense tbh
