...a more useful post
You could try stopping some applications from running at startup by opening "Run" from your start menu and type 'msconfig'
Go to the "startup" tab and untick any applications that you are sure dont need to be running. Close that box and restart

If you close explorer.exe then Windows will stop doing anything useful. You can close anything else you like, if it's important then it will restart itself. Things like messenger, iTunes, Adobe Updater, Java and other bollocks you don't need running are useful things to close.

There's usually a load of stuff that you don't need to run at startup, e.g. Java, Adobe quickstarter, iTunes helper, Quicktime helper... There are others but I can't remember then off hand
Just ending processes randomly isn't a great way to try and speed up your PC though tbh. Have a look at this for some tips: http://www.rikscomputeremporium.com/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=15

Tbh you wont do any damage that a reset wont fix, and if you do close explorer.exe you can just click File -> New Task -> Explorer.exe and it will start back up again.
As said though, stopping stuff from starting in the first place by using Run -> MSCONFIG is the best bet

Or install CCleaner as this also allows you to delete or simpyl disable provesses that load up with your PC.
Also clears up all sorts of files on your PC and fixes / deletes registry bits too.
