Ive got vista on my laptop, while trying to get football manager working again (moved files when backing up when it went in to be repaired), I went on properties on c/users/anthony and changed the attributes to hidden instead of read-only by accident (thought it would show the hidden folders)
But it deleted/hid even the anthony folder, so did a system restore, which brought it back, but now Im missing loads of files even stuff of my desktop How can I get these files back? (not in recycle bin)

next time:
1. Click the round blue Start thing in the left corner
2. Click Control Panel
3. Click Folder Options
4. Click the View tab
5. Click Show hidden files and folders
6. If you want to see system files as well, unclick Hide protected operating system files (Recommended)
7. Click OK

ps.
start looking for all folders in Documents and Settings. That should be something like:
- All users
- Default user
- Owner
- Your new userid
- Your old userid
might be a folder called "recovered files" or something
or USERDATA FOLDER

Sorted it, kinda followed what you said, got hidden files to show, then changed their attributes
