as above , would you buy a monitor to use just as a tv or just get a tv, as from what ive read some people are saying to just get a tv and a monitor isnt quite upto being just a tv and should not bee seen to be a tv. ??

If you get a true 1:1 1920x1080 HD computer monitor with HDMI/DVI input then it might be alright for watching BD/HD's etc but it won't have a tuner or do processing of any sort; so you will need an external tuner, converter (for different sources), then an upscaler (scale it to the 1920x1080) and obviously a sound system of sorts.
You can get monitors from Pioneer/NEC/Panasonic (basically a tv panel but without tuners/speakers) which will be a better bet as they do have image processing and tend to have different input connections.
Personally stick to a TV, less problems and will be cheaper in the long run.
