Hi
I need to navigate to the path c:\Program Files\Sims\Sims.net via the command prompt on a 2003 Server...and i can't figure it out.
So far, i've got as far as the Sims folder...so i arent far off.
The DOS name for "Program Files" is "Progra~1", the DOS name for "Sims" is simply "Sims", but i can't figure out the DOS name for the "Sims.net" folder.
Anyone have any ideas?

sims.n~1?
if not just rename it and take away they . then change it back when you're finished.

Will give that a go
Renaming it isnt an option...as it would seriously fuck things up on the network...good idea though.
Sims is an MIS used in the education sector....not the game

Command and cmd load different things.

Or, right click the command prompt shortcut on the start menu or wherever you're launching it from, properties, then just copy and paste the whole start in directory.

I've just tried doing it in command.com rather then cmd...with no joy. I read on an article after a google search that you can put the path in "" symbols...but i can't have understood it correctly.

Thats an ace idea, and i've just tried it...but it still didnt work. It worked fine right up until the "Sims.net" bit...as i tried each step in the path.
The "." in the path is seriously bumming me. No worries though, i'll just have to call the support line for the software tomorrow...unless i can figure it out before then

try the full path in quotes with spaces and everything

In the end, the DOS name of the Sims.net folder was Sims~1.net

1.In explorer, open Tools, Folder Options.
2.Select the File Types tab.
3.For Windows XP: Go to NONE / Folder.
4.For Windows 2000: Press n to scroll to the N/A section.
5.For Windows NT/98/95: Press f to scroll to the Folders section.
6.Select the entry labeled Folder
7.For Windows 2000/XP: Press Advanced button.
8.For Windows NT/98/95: Press Edit button.
9.Select New
10.In the action block type "Command Prompt" without the quotes.
11.In the app block type "cmd.exe" without the quotes.
12.Save and exit Folder Options.
This means in future u can just right click the GUI view and chose the command prompt will open in the dos location.

"Dir /x"...which shows the DOS name of every file and folder in the directory
