following on from Ur-a-gay handball? if its going into the net and someone stops it with there hand should the player be sent off and a goal given?

You then have the argument where its not clear if its going in or not and what to give.

IMO a penalty is enough - a professional should be good enough to hit the ball 12 yards in to the net.

Nope.

He was sent off, they got a penalty. Those are the rules. It was his own fault for missing. If he scored nobody would be questioning this.

still a bit unfair though as that was definatly going to be a goal, however a penalty was never going to definatly be a goal, as we saw.

if you had a penalty goal given then it would certainly stop people doing it

Then you get the instance of when someone handballs it from going in, but another guy behind him could have got to it. If they gave a penalty goal in that situation and it knocked a team out the CL World Cup or whatever, there would be uproar

It's better like it is now, if that guy hadn't tried to score a wonder penalty none of this would be thought about

We already have similar situations. The ref has to decide on last man for red card fouls he can decide on last man for penalty goal.

The number of times this happens is VERY few but when it does happen every one I have seen has been a clear hand ball so would not be hard to ref

Yes he should have gone IF the ref throught it was on purpose, which he did.

If it was accidental then it was not a pen thus it does not come into it.
