Any idea why the above is crashing every single virus-scanner on my laptop? Scanner gets to this file then freezes, the hard drive just spins, then laptop becomes unresponsive and has to be switched off by holiding the power button.
Any ideas?

Does it crash a boot time scan as well?

don't use that. use this
http://scanner.novirusthanks.org/
it will scan using a variety of AV scanners, instead of just kaspersky
