So far it's between:
http://www.johnlewis.com/230925667/Product.aspx
and
http://www.johnlewis.com/230929759/Product.aspx
But I'm up for suggestions. Shopping for TV's is a nightmare, too much choice. I'm after at least 40", 1080p, and Freeview HD is an added bonus.

Also doesn't have to be from John Lewis, but obviously would be a bonus if it was due to their warranties.

I got the 503 version of the sony you linked and it's an excellent telly. I think the only difference between the 403 and the 503 is 50->100hz, so decide for yourself if that's worth another £100!
Check out http://www.hdtvtest.co.uk/news/sony-kdl40ex503-kdl40ex503u-20100603700.htm too, I used it for a starting point for setting up my TV for optimal movie enjoyment then tweaked from there - but it also includes a nice review.

Richersounds have the exact same model as your first link for £569, but without the same warranty obviously.

If it's not a Goodmans 5 channel CRT I'm not interested.

Yeah I found that too, but for £30 I'd sooner go to JL.

John Lewis will price match if you can name a store where the TV is on display for cheaper (not just internet prices). I did that with a Sony LCD a while back.
Sony vs Samsung = they use the same panels.

Yeah it's not launched yet, but this tv will see me for 4/5 years so it'd be handy.
