We're hopefully looking to move into our new house by the end of this year which is currently being built from scratch.
Im looking to network the whole house, I have the cable, wall sockets, network cabinet and now need a decent switch.
Im looking for a 24port gigabit switch (all ports gigabit) and wondered if anyone has any suggestions?
I dont have a fortune to spend, but want something half decent, as it'll be transferring alot large files between media streams, PC and NAS etc (average file size <10GB, some 50+ though).
Anyone have any suggestions?

Doesn't want to spend a fortune and it's for the house, doubt he needs a managed switch.
Netgear ones do the job.

He has a cab so probably wants to mount it in there. I've never seen a mountable switch with fewer than 24 ports.

lol, I do need a fair few ports, 24 will allow for expansion.
I currently have 2 PCs in the office, 1 network printer, i'll put 2 ports in each bedroom (for media streamers/future PCs for kids etc), I have a Apple time machine, NAS, Router, in the living room a DNLA TV, PCH C200, AV reciever with network port.
Have a TV in the kitchen going in, so want one port there.
I count that 16.....
I think the Netgear GS724T might be suffice...

You can get quite a few <24 port mountable switches. The smaller ones tend to come with different brackets.
Make sure you check the noise output before you buy one

Ordered a netgear GS724T (v3) off ebay for £150, 24 ports of gigabit.
We have the 48 port version at work and its dawned on me that its likely to be freaking noisey.
Im trying to contact the seller to see about refunds, but hes not answering at the moment
Ive been told to look at the HP Procurve 1410G-24 which is a fanless 24 port (gigabit) rack mounted switch.
Looked on ebay and these are the same money brand new.
Anyone used any of the procurves themselves? Im interested to know how they perform against other switches etc.

Agree Netwgear ones are pretty good. But how can you comment on if he wants a managed or unmanaged switch at this gaff He's a bit of a nerd, may want to set up different subnets and what have you.

im not really fussed on managed/unmanaged.
I only have a NAS and a few areas streaming from it, along with a couple of PCs, no need to get managed I dont think.

We generally put in Netgear for standard switches. Not had any die. Linksys we use for managed due to cost.
I just plug a laptop into the TV for movies now or burn to DVD if getting pissed
