I think 3d movies suck personally, I said this to a mate and the reply was " 3d is best quality you can get its got a higther pixel ratio than HD, so stop moaning about it "
Am I right in believing he's talking out of his arse?

It's at most the same resolution as a normal film so he's talking rubbish.
Clarity of the picture on the RealD 3D system they use here is rubbish compared to a normal film.

I watched Avatar in 3d on reald 3d which they use here, and to be honest.. I thought it was crap. However after seeing a few movies in 2d on 4k projectors.. I would love to see Avatar on the 4k, the picture quality was immense.

Agreed, 3D is wank. The best bit is the SKY advert that is shown before the movie where the box is floating out I always go 2D and save a few quid now.

Avatar is the only film I've seen that was worth watching in 3D, any other ones have just been 3D for the sake of it.

Not yet, I can imagine active shutter being better than the polarised ones though.

Can't say i'm a fan either but as John summed up, he's talking bollocks.
4K is impressive, although it requires some bandwidth to shift it about (around 6GBits/s uncompressed) so i doubt we'll see it in homes any time soon considering we're struggling with bandwidth to transmit 1080p.
8K or Ultra HD is also meant to be pretty special (few reviews around from the Amsterdam trials a few years back) and the BBC have started to back it, so it'll be interesting to see what they do with it although i'm guessing it might be used for their outdoor (BBC Live) big screen broadcasts.

is active shutter what they use in th powered glasses? ive seen the panasonic and sony ones and the sony is better, 3d ps3 games look amazing! thers real depth to it as though the screen actually is a window and it jumps out a lot better too. they had a demo video of an american football team running out of the tunnel towards the screen then past the camera and i actually ducked out of the way

Isnt 3d half the res as it uses half the lines showing the left image and the rest the right?

No.
Most modern methods show alternate left and right, with some way of blanking out one eye at a time, polarised and shutter glasses being the most popular just now.
Active shutter is the powered glasses Lee.

It's not half the resolution as John said, but alternating the images does half the refresh rate which is one reason telly manufacturers are trying to push out 200Hz.
Active glasses have been out years though, remember having active glasses on a Metabyte Wicked3D graphics card years ago, was shit though
