I don't really have much of knowledge of engines so thought someone could provide some advice.
Basically, I went to view a C20XE Corsa recently and noticed signs of oil on the engine and was told by the owner that its a sump leak. So what i'm wondering is...
What is the cause of this?
How can it be fixed (and cost)?
Will it permanently 'cause problems or relate to other problems?
Help is appreciated, Thanks

The XE sump gaskets are notorious for it, I'm sure people use the 2.0 8v ones. It might just be that, but worse case scenario is that it's piston rings causing a build up of pressure in the crankcase. Was there any blue smoke coming out of it?

Is changing the sump gasket a big job? And big money?I didn't notice any blue smoke no. I really like the car, just don't want to buy it and be swamped with problems understandably. Or is it hard to determine really and maybe just bite the bullet?

Well it's a case of removing the exhaust manifold, draining the oil, old sump off then reverse that process. It's quite messy obviously but it's not exactly a big job. Only thing you need to watch out for is overtightening the M6 bolts that hold it on.
