Im struggling to get 1st gear when going from neutral but can get 1st gear fine if i put it into 2nd then up into 1st.
Would this be a gear linkage problem?

Hmm not too sure mate, although i cant usually get it in to reverse from neutral without having to go into 1st first.

No its when i need to pull away from junctions ect only when i need 1st.

Where's biting point on your clutch?
Might be worth adjusting it

I would say the biting point is quite low down but not right at the bottom.

Use some sort of lever/breaker bar to push the clutch lever back and tighten the adjuster.
When my cable got old it started stretching like a bitch. Was constantly adjusting it.
Then it went pop.
