So my PS3 just randomly switched off mid MW2.
Now the red light sits there flashing, if I press on/off it goes solid like it's properly off. Then if I press it again it comes on for one second, then switches right back off again
The pad is doing nothing! i.e. isn't turning the PS3 on... also I can't eject either.
Have turned everything off and left it for a while, but nope, same s**t.
Is it dead!?

Get a grip. Even the most stubborn Xbox FANBOI can't defend them. They broke/break too often. Fact.

try resetting it,
Activating Safe Mode
Step 1: Turn off the PLAYSTATION 3 by holding the Power button on the front of the unit till the Power light is red.
Step 2:
1. Touch and hold the Power button, you will hear the first beep, meaning the PLAYSTATION 3 is powering on.
2. Continue to hold the Power button and after about 5 seconds, you will hear a second beep, indicating the video reset.
3. Continue to hold the Power button and after about another 5 seconds you will hear a third beep and the system will power off (Power light is red).
Step 3:
1. Touch and hold the Power button, you will hear the first beep, again for the PLAYSTATION 3 to power on.
2. Continue to hold the Power button and after about 5 seconds, you will hear a second beep for video reset.
3. Continue to hold the Power button and after about another 5 seconds you will hear a quick double beep. At that point release the Power button. If you succeeded in activating Safe Mode, you will see a message on the screen saying, "Connect the controller using a USB cable and then press the PS button."
my blu ray drive died last night just after i bought fifa 11

I've just bought a Halo Edition Xbox as I like going online with that too. I am neither a Sony or Microsoft fanboy, but I know you are

It's clearly because they're either designed to fuck up after the warrenty runs out or the fact that the consoles you talk about were as reliable as a steam engine purely because they used the same technology.

Think its ylod, happened to me twice, fixed one of them for about 2 hours then it broke , sold the blu ray drives for £60 each and ended up buying a slimline last year with 3 years insurance

I head BGA banded around - but to be honest i have no fricking clue about this kind of stuff - all i know is some chips overheat and lift off the circuit board pads or something and heating the up with a heat gun settles them back down!
i was seriously skeptical when i read about the fix - but i was gobsmacked when it worked!!
