lotus designed them then gave them back to vauxhall who butchered lotus's work and made them slow

Lotus designed them as he said already. They can achiece 250+ if you have thousands to spend..

c16xe was the lotus developed engine made 148bhp, vauxhall didnt like the fact they got so much power as it made the gsi at the time with the 20xe in look poor so they restrcited the power and to keep some of the torque made them with them stupidly long inlet tract.
sbd claim on a fresh standard c16xe they make 164bhp on throttle bodies, but im sure they have now changed the figures to 150bhp.
ive tried to find out what lotus did exactly but nobody knows.
the x16xe has smaller inlet ports than the c16xe too.
and sbd have managed 241bhp, but thats a 10k revver, all steel, dry sumped, slipper pistons, 5mm valves, ti caps, springs, silly 300+dur cams etc etc

so if i get hold of a c16xe head it will be fine to put that on my engine with its bigger inlet posts or get mine ported and polished ??

you wouldnt see that much diff by just putting the head on, ideally you will need to raise rev limit, arp rod bolts, powerbox type inlet, mapped ecu etc if wanted to get near the lotus power. you could have your head ported/polished though

I'll have a good search on my laptop at home when I remember - I'm pretty sure I've got a pdf I downloaded once upon a time, which was the Lotus press release from when they worked on the engine.

porting isnt 'that'cheap and i know i dont charge near what other people do either. cams you would run a 260/264 duration any bigger and ull be bending valves.
do you ever go to that meet thing in bagillt?

160bhp is achievable on a standard x16xe with just tb's I have done it. Standard management is a killer of the engines along with the inlet as said above.

£2k or so all done or there abouts.
ive got bike carbs on my c16xe so will show you when its all done if want. would be cheaper than tbs but should give good gains
oh and i can supply newman cams cheaper than what you would pay for piper and there alot better too
