switched it on to watch a film. selected film, it started for about 3 seconds. switched itself off. try turning it on, it goes green, yellow then flashing red.
4th time its failed now. all i use it for is films. im slightly annoyed. cant really use xbox for films as it plays them in a shit quality compared to ps3.
wtf am i gonna do with it? out of warranty now.

Take it apart, fit new HDD, done.

will look into that marc. previous times it messed up it would switch on, load ps3 logo thing, menu appear then it would freeze and do nothing. thankfully it was within 12 months for both times it did it so warranty wasnt a problem.
bit gutted as its got all my films and tv saved on it. currently watching a copy of red on the xbox picture is so poor compared to ps3.

Its easy to fix yourself, even i did it and im shit at fixing things.
If you can build a 500 bhp corsa im sure you can take a few screws out, unplug a HDD, plug a new one in and screw it back to together.

how do you know its hard drive though?
my mate who does xbox's says it probably needs re flowed or something. just called him said he would have a look at it.

It sounds like exactly the same problem i had with mine. Worth a go like, its broke either way so may as well have a go at fixing it! Got nothing to lose.

well i guess i will have to take it to my mates for him to have a look. he can fix most electronic stuff so i will leave it to him to do.
might have to use the computer screen to watch films on for a few days. xbox is utter garbage at playing them in liveable quality. ps3 is amazing on avi's etc compared to this crap.

Is this not YLOD of death then? Sounds slightly different... I fixed mine twice but it only lasted around five hours each time, gave up in the end

Yep, same as mine, sounds like a HDD failure. Replace that and it should work again.

Hopefully give ps3 to my mate tomorrow and maybe have it fixed on weekend.
And yeah nath it plays files and films in much much better quality than xbox. Weird but true.
