I've fitted astra 2lt mk2 front brakes, and astra mk3 rear disk brakes to my corsa and was wandering what the reason for them not being very sharp would be? They've been fitted with new red stuff pads but the disks are old. Would old disks make any difference at all? Also would I need to upgrade the master cylinder or anything? Thanks for any help :-)

Not bled properly?? And new pads normally need to bed in a bit before they feel sharp anyway

They've been bled and new pads have been on the car for quite a while. Also put new sleeve\sliders on the front brakes as their off an astra gte (common fault apparently). Has anyone else had this problem? Is the braking with grooved disks any better or is it about getting rid of heat?

Oh right thanks. Debating about gettin new disks. What sort of price difference is there between grooved and drilled disks compared to standard and is there a huge difference in the way they perform?

I also have steel braided hoses and bias valve to stop the rear brakes over braking but I cant think of any other reason for them not being as sharp other than the disks being old. Unless the set up is totally wrong :-s

When i wrote the above is wasn't drunk nor was i joking.

The Redstuff pads are your problem. They have no bite at all. They are for fast road/track use. They need to be up to temp to work, and even when they are, they still arent as sharp as they should be.

Most of the EBC pads are utter toss so i would bin them 1st then work from there.

What kind of car??Corsa??What engine??

Mintex 1144 are highly rated as are Ferodo DS2500.

I dont have a car worth fitting fancy pads too,i just know enough about EBC pads being shit.Ive bought cars with them fitted and changed them right away for OE spec pads.I also had Redstuff pads fitted to Hi-spec 4pots on my old Pulsar and they were shit. From cold they were lethal,no brake feel at all and when warmed up they werent much better.Even on track after a few hard laps they didnt have any bite to them.
