Just clicked on the love film thingy.
Downloaded two updates for it. Clicked the link again after downloads and it
stayed on a lovefilm loading screen for about a week. So I quit the thing with ps button and it was still frozen.
So I turned it off on the button on the front.
Now when I turn it on it says
"the hard disks file system is corrupted and will be restored"

click enter and it restores to 100% and restarts then says the same thing.
Is it fooked? And does this mean I can't use my hard drive in a new ps3

and don't say should of bought an xbox
oh I did the system reset by holding down power button but no change

Do you have a laptop? It's a 2.5" SATA drive, so you could just take it out of the PS3 then stick it in your laptop and format it, FAT32, NTFS, doesn't matter I don't think. Then put it back into the PS3 and it should recognise it ok and ask you to format it. You'll lose all your saves tho.

ps3 has a 4gb file limit to stop you putting big bluray files on the hdd. they do this by using fat32 which has a 4gb file size limit.

was last time i checked

I've edited this because I'm not going to argue a subject I don't know much about. Don't even have a PS3.

external needs to be fat32, there is some debate on the ps3 file system. This sony support engineer says its fat32....http://www.ps3news.com/forums/playstation-3-news/ps3-hdd-file-system-details-direct-sony-92825.html but others say its not.

PS3 should reformate the drive after you format it on PC anyway.

Yeah, I found that page on google too

Like you say, with the PS3 reformatting it anyway, I don't think FAT32/NTFS will matter in this case. External yes.

Will my online username still be there?
I assume it's saved on a database. But all my online progress will be lost

You'll lose game progress that's saved locally, which is all your single player stuff I'd assume. If you play COD and games like that, you're multiplayer rank, etc. is stored online on their server. Same goes for your username, I assume you'll have to enter a couple of details and retrieve it and that'll still have your trophies or whatever daft thing it is on PS

The PS3 internal hdd doesn't have a file limit so cannot be fat32, iv got a few blurays saved on it which are mostly 8gb+ which I ftp'd over.

File system for PS3 is native to Sony, FAT32 is only for usb drives.

Given the drive is 3 years old, change for a larger drive.
