is yours a aftermarket radio?
if so then the date would go off with your standard one and as it still has a signal of a radio it turns off date to display the radio station, but your aftermarket wont display up there unless there is a plug in the back of it.

theres a wire you need to cut so it doesnt go off, its grey and white or yellow i think, cant remember but i did it on mine and it worked
