If I have experienced this with my Xbox360 elite, is it likely that even though removing cables and replacing them turning it off and on etc fixed it. Is it going to keel happen and brake?

I've heard of this before. Isn't either a non compatible disc or drive error?

The laser that reads the discs is dying.
I had the same problem and replaced the drive.

Yep, laser on it's way out. If it's past its year warranty, just force RROD and send it back if it's still in the 3yrs and they'll replace the board and drive.

Well, yeah, obviously I've still got the mad skillz yo
Just I don't buy and sell them any more.
I can do all that tho and chrome is totally wicked. Anyone who came round who hadn't seen it always wanted to suck me off
Can do the LEDs too Does a nice glow behind depending on where you keep your xbox.
It's about £8 to courier them anywhere next day, so it's not that out of the question I suppose.

If you're super l337 you build jtags and then the modding fun never stops Best mod ever putting the drive outside and a fan on the GPU
Not gonna lie....It's not for the faint hearted
Yes, I got carried away posting pics, sorry.

TBH mate, with the postage both ways, you might be better just getting the drive done locally if you want a full replacement. If you lived near, you'd just come round and I'd tweak the pot and you'd get another few months out of the laser before it needed replacing fully.
You could buy a 2nd hand drive saving money but also risking the same problem appearing shortly after or buy a new drive. Either way, the drive will need programming with the correct DVD key before it can be installed. Then again, you can avoid the programming by solely replacing the laser. There's many possibilities tbh
Those chrome cases are £60 brand new As you'd guess, I didn't pay that. One just so happened to come up for auction on ebay, with no pics or anything and a wank description. Picked it up for £20.
LED fan units for rear are a tenner for whatever colour. They're supposed to be whisper fans too, but that's bollocks, if anything they're slightly louder which is disappointing slightly. There's always the option of wiring in your own LEDs but for the sake of buying them pre-done for a tenner, it's not worth it.

Mines over 2 years old and when I opened it up, the dust wasn't even half that and it'd never been opened before by anyone who don't work for Microshaft.
If I was to ever getta JTag, I'd buy it off someone who knows what they doing
Theres alot of tings I can do but thats one thing I don't fancy trying as if you fuck it up, that could be your Xbox dead.

Well, depending on where you sit your xbox, the hard drive shell doesn't matter, as it's chrome round the rim anyway. So sat face on you can't see the grey. Mine was in a unit so you never knew. £20 was enough of a spend on case mods

What are these Jtags, that looks like some serious shit. My pal was telling me about a guy who did a custom build by building a 360 onto the bottom of an HD laptop - I've got no idea if it was real or if it's even possible but how funking cool would that be
