If it's a new laptop then I'd just suggest taking it back first of all. Otherwise, is there any kind of trend to when it does it? Like when using flash, or something like that?

If it's a new laptop, you tried reverting back to factory default installation of Windows?

thanks sam i'll try that, going to do some tests, usually when i've got it laid on bed, wondering if it is the video card getting too hot

If the fan vents are blocked then yes the laptop will overheat, but in my experience it would just turn off rather than showing a BSOD?
You could try looking at the Event Logs in Windows for any clues as to what's causing it to die:
Press the Windows key and R on your keyboard, and in the Run box type in eventvwr.msc and click on OK.
After it opens up, click on Windows Logs and the ones to look through are Application and System.
When your laptop dies again make a note of the time and do the above steps if you can't remember the exact time when it last died on you.

ok i've had it sat on a book and it still does it so like you said sam it can't be overheating.
Just done that thing, in system there is an error message that says:
The computer has rebooted from a bugcheck. The bugcheck was: 0x00000116 (0xfffffa800253a4e0, 0xfffff88002d00cf4, 0xffffffffc0000001, 0x0000000000000003). A dump was saved in: C:\Windows\MEMORY.DMP. Report Id: 052311-19266-01.

Log Name: System
Source: amdkmdag
Event ID:62464
Task Category: DVD_OV
In fact theres about 12 of these logs at that exact time

That "amdkmdag" is to do with the graphics chip in your laptop.
Random question but - are you using AVG anti virus on it?

I can't find a solution for this problem.
Seems to be dodgy video card driver + windows 7 problem.

they'll send it away unless you paid lots for a ridiculous warranty

Even if they do want to, don't hang onto a brand new lemon laptop because of that reason.
Curry's are usually really good for replacements from my experience anyway.

Reason I asked is because I found a thread from some forum online where some users mentioned AVG was conflicting with the graphics drivers I think:
http://forums.amd.com/game/messageview.cfm?catid=279&threadid=145517
With regards warranty, Currys might say to you that after 30 days you'd have to send it to the manufacturer, but I imagine they'll just sort you out a replacement in store TBH as your contract is with Currys in a way, not HP or whoever.
