Yes, any exposed metal will be earthed.

Backbox will be earthed, light switches don't have to be.
Just done ours in black nickel.

They all have an earth point, but if you have metal bac boxes they should be earthed. Therefore won't require an earth.

So what do you earth the metal backbox to? An earth wire coming from the roof or whatever?
I'm just thinking in terms of shitty 60s wiring that doesn't have anything in the way of earthing...

The faceplate of the switch or socket needs to be earthed (i.e have an earthing conductor attached) relying on the continuity of the backbox through the face pins is NOT sufficient and non-compliant.

If your lighting circuit has no CPC (earth wire) you are NOT allowed to fit metal accessories (including light switches and light fittings).

The screws on the socket/switch are connected to the earth on the socket/switch back, then the backbox is earthed via the screw.
