The select few of you that are on my Facebook will have noted my rantings regarding Vodafone mobile broadband.

I unfortunately need to use this method of Internet access for another couple of weeks or so thanks to the previous owner of our new house not disconnecting their phone line 30 days from completion date (and Sky refusing to connect us up even though the previous owner was also with Sky)...

Anyways, I bought a Vodafone mobile broadband dongle on PAYG the other day and on their website it says coverage here should be excellent. Dongle can supposedly connect up to 14.4Mbps however all I ever get is 3.6Mbps but it feels like I am on dialup (anything on the web takes forever to load, sometimes things are OKish but a lot of the time I'm just waiting).

Taking my laptop around the house makes no difference it's still crap.

Are all mobile broadband connections like this or can I just continue to blame Vodafone for being shit? Anything I can do to make my connection better?

I've changed to OpenDNS which seems to have helped a little, but still getting sloooowwww speeds.

Also - I can't seem to open any NSFW websites I keep getting a Vodafone message about content filtering or some shit like that. I created an account on the Vodafone website but it keeps giving me an error whenever I try to change the content settings on there. Any ideas?

Yup, it's the ping that'll be doing you over. Could try a different 3G dongle?

whereabouts are you sambo? its unlikely youd get above 7.2 unless youre on the firnges of a city cte and 14.4 is mostly only city ctes at present.

3.6 would be as expected imo (pending what youve been told/found on coverage checker etc.)

Dom - I've only got the Vodafone dongle (it's a ZTE K3570Z apparently).

Robbo - I'm about 11 miles west of Birmingham.

"Fair" apparently.

Their coverage map thing says I am supposed to get a full signal (there is also a Vodafone transmitter literally 5 minutes walk from the house too).

Done a bit of research the other day and came to the conclusion that mobile broadband (regardless of network) is pretty shit TBH.

Hopefully in 2 weeks time I will have faster, more reliable landline broadband!
