How much did you last spend on your current system, and what type of computer is it? Oh and was it brand new or secondhand when you got it?
I'm interested to find out what people generally buy as I'm working on a range of PCs and laptops to sell online (hopefully that offer better value for money than what you can buy from the likes of PC World/eBuyer etc.), and thought I'd ask a large cross section of people.

Varies massively.
Is it even worth trying to compete with Dell or whoever, or even PC World, everything is cheap as chips just now and you can't grumble with a Dell 3 year warranty.

£380 on a Dell Optiplex i5 which I've since added an ATI 2450 and 2270 to and two 2gb drives, currently stands me about 700.

Only got the mrs' laptop at the moment. Think it cost her around £600
Currently it's got a broken screen so looking to replace it with a netbook around the £200 mark but hopefully as cheap as possible

Absolutely. I could probably offer a similar level of warranty too as most components that go into a PC are normally 2/3 year warranty (and lifetime in the case of a lot of RAM manufacturers). Laptops I could probably offer an optional extended warranty too or negotiate a free one depending on make.
People go to Dell because they are a well known brand, just like the others you see in High Street shops. Doesn't mean smaller companies can't offer better alternatives, support and pricing though.

Theres a place called CCl (cclonline.com/co.uk) up the road from me. They deal with a lot of stuff online and the shop is always busy.
sheck out their site for the sort of deals they have on. My full setup came from there.

Went in there a few times for 'bits & bobs' when I lived in Huddersfield although generally i thought they were pretty expensive. Usually went to Microdirect (they aren't terribly cheap either) if I needed something the same day or t'internet otherwise.
Current system, probably about £900 (Q6600/4GB ex keyboard/mouse/monitor etc) but that was 3 years ago.

About £400 in 2006 excluding monitor. It's a desktop PC that I built myself so that was the cost of the components.
All I've done since is upgraded the RAM. Still runs pretty fast but I have formatted it a couple of times.

Spent £1280 on my MacBook Air last month, was the 1.8 GHz i7 with 256GB SSD and 4GB RAM.
My previous was a Dell XPS M1330 with a 250GB HDD, 4GB RAM and a Core2 Duo. Also had some kind of Nvidia mobile graphics card on it and cost about £900 in 2008.
Both bought brand new, though the Dell came from a reseller on Ebay as it worked out cheaper to buy a pre-built system rather than a BTO.

What do you mean you are bored with it and why have you bought a case for a server, you'd just go and buy another poweredge if you hadn't just made it up.
What extra features do you require for your bedroom exchange server that the T410 doesn't currently have?

I use it day in day out, 9+ hours a day for everything, work and play.
Core i7, 8GB RAM, SSD, the works in an 11" frame laptop, 6 hours battery life as well.

About £900 on a Dell laptop 3 years ago. Went for a fairly decent spec at the time, 4GB ram, blu-ray player etc.
Could get the same thing much cheaper now.

About £400 straight from the shop, about 5 years old now and I've never upgraded anything. Wish I knew how or what to upgrade though. I'd love a decent computer.
