i am working full time getting 220 a week and looking to rent a 2 bedroom house like 850 a month i heard the council can pay must off it and you top it up how do i do this is that true my mother rented a house the councill payed it and mother topped it up.
i am new to this i have a partner whos pregant and is late by 4 days so like to get a 2 bed room house would we need to go to letting aggent or what please help us

The council will only pay if your unemployed. If your in full time employment then your on your own.

housing benefits dont pay out as working full time like my mum worked full time not sure confusing

You're probably best asking the Citizen's Advice Bureau about this then, or looking on the direct.gov website for info.
That, or get another job/a second job and pay the rent in full yourself

i work day and nights so no chance off getting anorther job i have 2 days off and work at a pub in the kitchen 9 30 to 3 and then back at 5 30 till 9 30pm

Well it's up to you TBH, if it was me I'd just look for a better paying job or move out of Oxford and to somewhere cheaper to live.
Round here for example (I live near Dudley in the West Midlands) we used to live in a 3 bed semi detached house for about £500/month in an OK area.
Years ago I used to rent a room in a shared house in Headington for like £300+ a month! So obviously it ain't cheap where you are.

i think you'd get working tax credit, but will only be a small amount, you will get child tax credit as well. But that'll only help you pay your rent to pay majotrity if it

If you're working full time, and she isnt, but you have a baby... then you will have to pay rent yourself but you will be entitled to working tax credits and child tax credits.

£850 a month for a 2 bedroom house, thats rediculous. Maybe look somewhere cheaper Or learn to live on £30 a month. Cheaper area definately.

It's a good job this is House Day where no one comes, 10+ pages easy in Off Day.
Surely you can see renting a £850 house on £220 p/w isn't going to be feasible. I'd get onto the council/housing association first, see what they have to offer.
You will get some working tax credits/child tax credits although it's hard to tell how much. It's so little for me I don't claim it. You will also get child benefit, approx £80 every 4 weeks.

There is a calculator online that tells you how much working/child tax credits you are entitled to. They kept messing ours up when i started claiming, and eventually got nearly a years worth all back dated at once.
We used to get about £130 a week for both of them on top of my wages. I was earning about £300 a week.

It's not very accurate though, or wasn't in our case.
When we used to claim it went something like this:-
Fill out worlds longest form after trying to find old P60's.
Get a stupidly complicated letter back basically saying most of what I'm entitled to is cancelled out by the exact amount I earn, which isn't a huge amount by any means.
End up getting about £10-15 p/w.
Come August fill out all same forms again.
Get a letter saying we've been overpaid and need to pay most of it back putting the Mrs in a mad panic.
Spend hours on the most stupid phone system ever where you go through all the options then get disconnected if lines are busy.
Get another letter saying we owe nothing.
Get anotheretter saying what we are now entitled.
Repeat next August.
Surely it's just easier to pay less tax in the first place rather then take it off me then have a ridiculous complicated system to claim it back.
With regards to the OP, Citizens Advice or Job Centre will have more information.

Appear to be plenty of houses within 10 miles of Oxford for much cheaper TBH
I couldn't afford to live in the centre of Bristol so I live within my means outside town

That's what's wrong with this country IMHO so many people just feel they are totally within their rights to have what they can't afford!
Fuck me when I was younger I worked split shifts behind the bar in pubs and had to live in a pikey caravan park as that was all I could afford. Soon worked myself up to running pubs and clubs.
I think the incentive was needing more money to have a nice gaff...
No offence mate but get what you can afford and if you can't, get a better job or train for one. That's what I had to do..

so many options to think about i no i would spend nights with my partner and look aftear baby at nights and work days but the trouble theres hardly any where going where i am based which pays more then what i am on now.

Good luck with the house search and congrats for when the baby is born. Got to live within your means though an 850 a month house is unrealistic on 880 a month.

A friend of mine moved from Oxford to Bicester because it was cheaper there, perhaps you could do something similar and just commute?

Were looking at a 5 bed brand new house with double garage ect for £950 a month!
You are either looking in the wrong place or where u are looking is expensive to live!
