was cleaning my car today and a quick look in the boot revealed quite a large hole in the spare wheel well. its about 5cm in diameter, the rest of the boot and checked underneath all the carpets since finding this and its all fine.
is this a common problem? best fix? i was thinking cutting out the bottom and welding new in

Yes it is. We'll has been on my corsas. It's where the black gromets are in, unsure of there purpose. I just removed them all and patched them up but people have removed the whole thing

ok thanks, its the same half on mine.you've done a good job on that jed i remember seeing it on your project thread. i'll take it into work on monday and weld it up. got some k-rust and underseal so il get it over the pit and do that as well.  . trying to get last few of these jobs done before pvs as that will be longest journey its done in a while and don't want it falling apart on the way

Yep common problem on the B
Had mine done like this.
This cut out from a corsa in the scrap yard.
All done with some anti rust primer and painted (no pics)
By using a old wheel well you keep the full full shape so the spare wheel sits in perfectly and not on a slight slope but depends how far up the edge the rust had crept.

Rust is only on the bottom, only in one spot which is now a hole
