Is there any point in me dropping an email to someone at Virgin or BT asking when they're going to upgrade my exchange? New business contact or something?
Only reason I ask is it's a new estate, and it's got a lot of big houses on it, so i'd imagine there's a lot of people here who use the internet a lot, and we're all on 2mb maximum at the moment. I know i'd jump to ship to whoever was first to offer 20-50-80mb speed without even thinking about it
Other than that is there anywhere I can find out if they're going to upgrade the exchange? Have checked samknows but he doesn't seem to know

No point at all and if there's no dates for any upgrades on samknows it won't be anytime soon.
Any LLU providers? That's about the quickest you'll get.

With O2 already, think it's LLU
Get 2.5 through the master socket, 1.3 if I re-attach that

How close are you to the exchange?
If the speed drops so much there's a wiring fault somewhere or you are missing a filter.
You get a faceplate with a built in filter that might help.

We're over a mile from the exchange
With the baseplate on the main socket it's 1.3, with it unscrewed and plugged directly into the master it's 2.5, might look at the other faceplate.
Got no problem with it being straight in the master socket, just doesnt look very nice, although it's hidden most of the time anyway

Can you get some line stats from your router?

Which exchange?
http://www.productsandservices.bt.com/consumer/assets/fibre_map/index.html
Might be prepped for fibre to cabinate.
Have you noticed any new green boxes popping up around you

They've upgraded some of Derby already though, so seems weird. Just says "Derby" on the BT checker
