my iphone 4 contract is up next month, thinking im gonna wait til the iphone5 comes out and just get a sim only deal for now so i can keep up with apple instead of been bound to a contract.
i got my phone on orange, could i switch the sim to 3? or would i have to get an orange sim?

You have to ask Orange to unlock your phone as I believe the network has to request an unlock from Apple.
But I shouldn't see any problem in them doing this for you. Whether they charge you for this or not is another matter.

Swapping from Orange to 3 would be the biggest mistake of your life reception wise

Depends on the area Alan. I'm with 3 and sometimes my reception is better than O2!

Yeah I have to admit when I had to use my iPhone as a WiFi hotspot when we first moved here their data was so much better than the supposed fast Vodafone mobile broadband dongle that I bought at the time!

If you kept the current, wouldn't they just put you in a 'rolling contract' technically not bound to a proper contract but can still upgrade when it comes to it? That's what Vodafone are doing for me.

Musn't be anywhere near as bad as up here then, I used to have to physically get up and go over to the window in my house to be able to talk to anyone or send messages

I'm in Glasgow, 3 is good, Orange is bad.
3 used to be bad but seem to have greatly improved.
