As above really!
How can I get a YouTube link to start playing in 1080p rather than standard quality?
Google is full of people showing how to make a 1080p video

From what i remember there are options under your account settings to 'play at the best quality' available. But it never seems to work for me.
Depending on what browser you're using then there are a few decent extensions/add-ons that help. I use 'YouTube Options' extension under Chrome, allows me to set playback quality and loads of other options.

It's to actually send to someone, so it starts in HD Dom. Will have a look for a script on gm now Josh.
Edit: It's for browser only the scripts isn't it?

Adding &hd=1 on the end of the link does it, in 720p anyway.
That'll have to do I think

Yeah &hd=1 is 720p. You can't get 1080p without having to watch it in the popout window (via URL anyway).
The link for this is (note the video_popup):
http://www.youtube.com/watch_popup?v=***VIDEO ID GOES HERE***&vq=hd1080
E.g; http://www.youtube.com/watch_popup?v=9fbo_pQvU7M&vq=hd1080
Userscript for greasemonkey; http://pastebin.com/Mps3TSSC
