Author strange engine temperatures

the temperature gauge for the engine constantly changes , going nearly to 100 and back down , just got it 3 weeks ago and it is my first car so not much knowledge on these type of things any help would be greatly appreciated , i don't want it to die before i can legally drive it

1.2 sxi 3 door , hopefully , also i don't get any hot air through the vents ?

I wouldn't think it'll die I'm guessing it's going up because your not moving lile Gary says and it's going back down cause the fans kicking in? How long does it take to get to temperature?

about 5 minutes , and yeh the fan kicks in when it reaches the the higher end of the gauge , do you have any idea why i dont get hot air from the vents ?

Fooked matrix if your getting a temp reading at the das I reckon. Double check coolant levels though

is replacing the matrix a difficult and expensive job ? probably silly questions , first car so excuse my lack of knowledge

Not expensive if you buy 2nd hand. Not a technical job, just a pain in the arse.

If I was you id investigate the heater controls first, make sure the temp knob is connected and working. It may be the cable has broken so not moving the internals
