have you amended your upload speed on the PC previously to maximise your download speed and forgotten to replicate this on the Mac?

Use utorrent or transmission as the client and make sure ports are open correctly.

Router........

And if your PC was fine then clearly something is fubar'd on the Mac. As said, use a decent client like utorrent or transmission and make sure the correct port(s) are open for the client.

Lee I had zero knowledge as well when I started.

There are plenty of guides/forums out there. Really is worth doing some research to understand it and you do not need to be a scientist to configure it all.

I can't believe I did not start using them earlier!

is this newsgroup thing where you download multiple pieces of the files and have to combine them to make your whole file?

If you mean zip or rar files then every single warez release gets shipped like that, on torrents though they're usually unrared already as it has an error-checking facility in the protocol.

However a good Usenet client like sabnzbd takes care of all the downloading, checking, repairing (if needed) and unzipping.

It also can be automated to download TV series when they air (useful for American shows) and to download films when they're released on DVD/BluRay
