Hey Guys,

Finally started using my Apple TV properly over Xmas and have tarted up all my movies by adding the proper DVD covers to them.

Problem I'm having is I'm wanting the surround sound to work from the Apple TV, problem is the only output it either HDMI or optical. The surround sound only has 'Progressive scan/componenet output' and 'Aux in' which will obviously just give stereo.

Is there any sort of adapter available to use?

When you say "surround sound" what do you mean exactly? Model etc.

HDMI can output in surround. What are you using sound wise? 5.1 DVD player jobby or a proper reciever?

This.
You ideally want something to decode the 5.1 / 7.1 audio sent over HDMI.
As Gary mentions, an all in one or proper receiver will do this properly. You just need to make sure your content has the stereo surround sound and not mono.

Sounds like he has an all in one. Optical aux will support surround fine

Sorry, poorly written, in a rush.
Need to ensure the content has multi-channel audio track.
No point trying to setup and test 5.1/7.1 sound system if the video only has a 2 channel audio track.
