I'm thinking about biting the bullet and getting a pay-TV service.

I've never had it before, even when I lived with my parents they never had it.

I like the look of the Virgin Tivo box. Are there any channels that you can only get with a certain provider that I should be aware of?

I think sky generally has the better choice of channels and box office, virgin when I had it had a bucket load of free on demand stuff like TV shows etc.
Bt is basically a freeview recorder with some on demand services and a movie service. When I get my new flat in June I'm gettin sky

Just priced up Sky.

Just Sky TV with Sky Sports on top. Then broadband and home phone that matches what I already have.

£70 a month

I don't think I would use it enough to justify that.

Sky is slightly better for HD channels and sports although Virgin offers better VOD and Tivo isn't too shabby. If you head with Sky then try and get a friends/family deal, otherwise there was decent cashback offers (save £100+) for VM the other day over on Topcashback.

I've always found Sky to be the best of the TV bunch at actual TV. Terrible company though.

I might stick with my combination of Freeview HD, Netflix and Apple TV TBH.

I rarely have nothing to watch, I just quite fancied Sky Sports.

Similarly you get Movies4Men (or what ever it's called) only on Sky/Freesat.

Tbf, the biggest reason to go with VM is for broadband otherwise VOD and Tivo is about the only plus points for their TV service. Sky offers more (a fair amount more iirc) channels though.

I'd never pay that kinda money. I have Freeview HD, Netflix and 2TB of TV Shows/Films to keep me going!

Same. I'm sure the built in Freeview HD on my TV is better picture quality than old old Sky HD box too.

After watching Blu Ray's and going back to dodgy rip's it is very pants.

I don't watch enough TV for it ever to care though, anything I do watch is American and I download the good quality rip and stream through the PS3.

I have Sky HD, a friend used to have Virgin Media and one has BT Vision.

Sky customer service has been spot on. The one with BT Vision cancelled Sky after a few days as he had no end of issues with them overcharging his account and refunding!

Virgin Media is good for the Tivo and there is a lot of stuff on their network that you can watch. Not available everywhere though.

BT Vision seems to be a basic version of Virgin Media with a poorer choice of films etc.

Skys selection of films in my opinion is better than it used to be, especially now they show encrypted films throughout the day.

If you can't get Sky can you get Virgin? You need to be in a cabled area.

If you are, I can get you the mates rates, saving £15 a month. U2U me if you're in a cabled area (post code checker on their site).
