In the last few months i've started having the issue, usually only happens if i'm slightly forceful selecting reverse, whereby the lower ball-joint (gearbox side) pops out eg -
This is happening once every other month and it's a five minute fix with a big screwdriver pushing the ball back in the socket but it's obviously wearing and with it being the older version of the linkage it's probably better to replace it anyway.
Firstly, how much of a pain in the rear is it changing the linkage? Everything i've read makes it sound like it isn't too bad of a job but from past experience what starts off as a reasonable job, quickly becomes an arseache.
Secondly, if i purchase >THIS KIT<, is there anything else i need?
Lastly, there is a reasonable amount of play in the gear stick when in gear - is it purely down to the worn linkage? Or would i be right in thinking it's a ball join/socket at the base of the stick, if so what needs replacing to sort it? ie -

I wouldnt bother buyng one of those cheap kits off ebay. I got one and had to return it as its was way too stiff. When in neutral if you moved it left or right it would just stay there. I ended up buying a proper one from vauxhall for about £65 I think it was.
Not difficult to do but you do need ramps to get under the car to unbolt the lingake from the selector rod.
It took me about an hour the first time and 30 mins the second.

Cheers Rob. Was that the bush/join repair kit (#93183155 - >THIS< - was quoted £66.60 for the kit from Vauxhall) or was that the complete updated linkage (ie - >THIS<)?
I was looking at replacing the complete linkage with the updated version rather than just repairing the current linkage, hence looking at eBay linkages as it's £15-20 vs £140 from Vauxhall
Has anyone had any experience of using eBay or pattern part linkages?
Edit - And regarding part numbers - i've got #93176772, which i thought was the complete linkage (it's what is listed in the 2012 EPC), although Vauxhall have quoted #55556356 for the linkage and #93183155 for the repair kit.
Can anyone confirm what's what?

This should be all you need
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Genuine-Vauxhall-Corsa-C-Gear-Linkage-Repair-Kit-NEW-/290874219838?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item43b9745d3e
I can get you a part number tomorrow at work if no-one knows it. I wouldn't bother with a copy one, we've tried them at work and they are shit. Waste more time trying to get it right, vauxhall ones are a lot less hassle.
Fairly easy to fit, remove pin from selector on gearbox, flick off the black plastic cap which holds the linkage down, get under the car and undo the torx bolt that holds it to the shaft and pull the linkage out.
Fitting is just the reverse, then you just have to get the gears lined up which you may struggle with but it's not too difficult.

Thanks Joe.
The eBay kit you linked to, is that what Vauxhall class as the repair kit then? Part number being #93183155 (what i got told by Vauxhall for the repair kit)?
With the full assembly (like >THIS<), which includes mounts, being #55556356 (what Vaux sell for £116+VAT)?
Two for two on the eBay/pattern parts being naff though Can i ask what issues you had though Joe with using cheap kits?

It was the complete linkage that I replaced as per the link in Joe's post.
I changed mine as going into second wasnt as nice as I thought it should be but after replacing with the genuine vauxhall part its still the same.
If you want my old one your welcome to it if you cover the postage. It came off an 05 plate SXi with 29k miles on.
I wouldnt bother buying those mountings unless yours feel worn. From what I read the main failure of these linkages is the stabilising bar popping out of the joints.

The one numbered 55556356 is the full bit which bolts onto the subframe aswell, not as common. Sometimes they bush gets worn on the subframe and there is loads of play. But if you're replacing just because that ball joint keeps popping out there is no real need.
Vauxhall call it a repair kit but the one I linked is what you get all built up. Ill get you a part number tomorrow at work.
With the pattern one had the exact same problems as rob, was way too stiff. Couldn't even get the gears to line up or anything. A 10 minute job took half an hour and in the end I ended up binning it and getting a vauxhall one anyway.
