How do I rip my DVD's to my laptop so I can play them back on here without needing the disc?

DVDFab from your local 'shop'. Handles all protection on DVDs to stop them being copied.

But you're probably better off just downloading them anyway

is there not an easy way of doing it like I do with cd's / music?! Just pop the disc in and let the laptop rip the disc to the hard drive?

MakeMKV is good if you want an un-compressed rip, a DVD would take up around 4-5GB usually with this.
