Curious to see in particular what peoples upload speeds are, with different companies. Never really been too important to me in the past but I've started using CrashPlan and the upload speed with Virgin Media is shocking - and that's before they do their traffic shaping.

Will shortly be moving and installing BT (standard broadband, not the fibre) so hoping their upload speed will be better.

Depends on what package you're on but generally VM uploads are pretty reasonable ie - pay for the 120Mb package and you'll get ~12MB/s down and 1.2MB/s up

You won't be getting a better upload unless you get an annexe m connection (or fibre).

I've got a pathetic 4mb in a brand new estate in which absolutely no fibre has been laid.

Looks like my expectations are slightly high then. Seems for the connection we have our upload speed is pretty average.

Assuming it's either business line, you work for VM (hence office connection) or you're trialling a new package/hardware/etc?

I would rather lose by a mile because i built my own car, than win by an inch because someone else built it for me.

That ping!

If you're paying for an 8Mbps connection there's definitely some troubleshooting to be done.

Are you on a wireless connection? If so, try plugging a LAN cable directly from your router into your PC and do the test again.
