looking to buy our first washing machine for our first home
knowing nothing about them I'm looking for advice, on a budget of £450.
I was thinking bosch , however Panasonic are offering 6 year parts and labour warranties presently which seems very tempting, any one had any experience with them at all.
thanks

+1 for LG - bought one with an 8kg drum and their crazy beltless drive technology (the drum is basically suspended in a massive electromagnet sitting behind it).
Never missed a beat, practically silent in operation. Had to go and check it was actually running the first few times we ran it cos it's so quiet!

You might want to take a look at John Lewis own brand washing machines. I'm led to believe they're rebadged AEG/Zanussi and come with a three year guarantee which is not to be sniffed at. You can upgrade to 5 years for £75. John Lewis are generally pretty good with warranties - I've been fortunate enough to have never had anything I've bought there go wrong myself but I know people who have and John Lewis have just replaced the faulty item on the spot, no quibbles.
The LG's come with a two year guarantee for everything except the wacky direct drive technology which is guaranteed for 10 years, but you do have to jump through a few hoops to register for it. Ours is coming up to five years old I think and touch wood no issues yet.

We would have had one of those John Lewis ones but they were out of stock and the lead time was too long, that's when I found the LG instead. Don't regret it at all.

Dunno if they all do it but my LG plays a happy little tune when the cycle is finished. Just as well really cos you wouldn't know otherwise!

well other brands mentioned to me are zanussi, gorenje but tbh they look very bland, I know I shouldn't buy one based upon looks and I don't plan to but if I could get summin that looks fairly nice as well it would be a bonus

I don't mean to harp on about LG washing machines, but the ones with the chrome effect doors look the tits:
And the spinny control wheel they have with the LEDs round the edge is awesome:

I looked at all the fancy LG ones and ones that were a fortune.
Settled on an £250 8kg Beko.
I thrown everything in it on a Friday, it gets left on the same cycle.

I bet Rob details his washing machine, don't think I've ever seen anyone so passionate about a domestic appliance!
We have an Indesit, 7 yrs old and it's not broken yet, can be a bit noisy though.
I'd look at capacity and spin speed, the faster it spins the drier your washing comes out.

White goods in the garage FTW.
In the last two weeks we've bought a freezer, washing machine, tumble dryer and intergrated dishwasher, think the lot came to about £200.

We got one of the Samsung ecobubble ones, no complaints about it. Looks like its the Samsung equivalent of the chrome LG one above, was about 430odd from somewhere online.

Nope, paid £50 for each, and £70 for the dishwasher, washer is bosch, and dishwasher is indesit, just picked them up off eBay and gumtree. They don't look anything special but that's the good thing about having a garage
Bought new at the last house (hotpoint/ samsung etc) and within 18 months both the washing machine and fridge freezer broke down both costing us nearly what we paid originally paid.

Washing machines get fucked up round here because of hard water. I bought a Bosch Classix 6 brand new for £200. Bargain
Found it on eBay, someone had moved into a new build and bought their own washing machine - were selling the brand new one from the builder.
Same one on Very - http://www.very.co.uk/bosch-wae24166gb-1200-spin-6kg-load-washing-machine-white/928833252.prd?aff=google&affsrc=acquisition-_-appliances_washing-machine_freestanding-_-PE664-_-WAE24166GB_1200_Spin%2c_6kg_Load_Washing_Machine_White&cm_mmc=google-_-PLA_All-_-All+Google+PLA-_-HDQQJeak_24873470836

Rob you sad bastard!
We bought a 250 quid samsung one when we moved in 3 years ago. It's washed my clothes fine for those 3 years.
I don't get turned on by fancy led lights and belta inside the machines, so it's perfect for me. Press the start button, it washes and then it gets hung out to dry.
