So im on OSX 10.5.8 Leopard at the moment. I want to get to Lion 10.7.

Whats the easiest and cheepest way to do it? Could i download 10.7 off a torrent for example and just run that?

Or am i going to have to spend £15 to buy snow leopard and then £15 to download Lion?

Not the most technical guy in the world either so as simple as possible please!

got an apple store near you? I've heard of them giving the disks away if you say you're trying to upload to 10.7 but can't seem to find the app store, play dumb and they may give you the disk to get there

Use a retail (make sure it is retail) image and backup your stuff beforehand. And make sure you have you old 10.5 discs to hand.

Alternatively, purchase a 10.7 USB drive from eBay (seen them go for £6-10) or similar. Or try and blag a copy as Lee said.

I'd go down the official route first before hunting down a OSX retail image just incase the using an internet image causes your Mac to self destruct etc.

I've got a legit Lion disk - can make you a "guaranteed to not be full of computer AIDS" bootable USB if you provide the drive. (8Gb)
