What do people recommend using?

I've got a Nilfisk with patio cleaner attachment and it would knacker the decking imo.

It's great for patios, stone and concrete but too powerful for timber

I used some ronseal decking cleaner along with low pressure on the pressure washer. Wasn't that cheap but results were brilliant.

I just went for it in the end with the patio cleaner attachment on. Had the pressure turned right down to start with, tested an area then kept increasing pressure and checking it wasn't doing any damage until I ended up on full pressure and cleaned it up nicely. If you are using the lance on it for doing round the edges or the hand rails you've just got to not get too close to the timber or it does then start to go wooly and fibreous

Need to do mine. Thinking that ronseal stuff with a stiff brush will be best, followed by a pressure wash.

After I got it cleaned up I was asked to go back and stain it.

Got 1 coat on half of decking and handrails so far. Taking ages to do all the handrail with having to work off a ladder to do the outside. Going to need at least another 1 or 2 coats yet to get it all looking the same finish as some bits are faded worse than others so the oil is soaking in and not colouring it as well.

After pressure washing:

After 1 coat of oil:

The bit of handrail on the right doesn't get the weather anything like as much as the rest of it hence the colour of it being a lot darker. Hopefully it will all be as good as that once it's had more coats!

I've found ok so far. Easy to use. Doesn't look like it's done much but then when it dries it goes darker. It's an oil rather than the stain version that Cuprinol also do
