Whats the deal with this?
Got a laptop for the missus for Xmas and she says it runs very slow. She used to have an old Toshiba that runs quicker than this thing!
Anyway, a quick look through ebuyer says if you change your mind and want to return a product, it must be unopened and 'as new'. That's all well and good, but how do you know how well a laptop performs without using it?
Any advice?

Ring them and explain, gotta be easier than speculating what the best option might be?

Thanks for that informative post.
I did research. Amd a6 chip had fair reviews and it's windows 10. You'd expect it to be quicker than a 7 year old Toshiba laptop.
How about don't be a prick for one day? Try and research that.

That's a shame, we could have had some cs banter through royal mail's delivery service hopefully they'll take it back and exchange it for one with a better processor. Obviously i'll have to pay more, but that goes without saying.

Did it come with an AntiVirus pre-installed? Get rid if so. Might make the world of difference.
But I'd truly expect a 7 year old HP laptop to run better than a Toshiba! Any Toshiba I've had the pleasure of dealing with has been a crock of shite.

The Toshiba runs better than the new HP, Deano
I don't think it came with anything pre installed, though it's been wiped back to factory settings now anyway.

Yeah I know. Point I was making is I'd expect anything to run better than a Toshiba, so the fact your new one is pony says something!

Probably has a slow ass drive installed. Replace for an SSD and will be fine.

Bit of a weird statement. Hardware in a Toshiba is no different to that of any other brand. Actually Toshiba produce a lot of the components for other manufacturers, HDD's and SSD's for instance.

Well, you did completely ignore the advice given, when you asked what to buy.
As said in this thread and the other you made, get a laptop with SSD.

There were none in budget with a decent size SSD.
If you even bothered to read this thread, you'll also see that her 7 year old Toshiba laptop is quicker than this new one. The Toshiba has a HDD, so it's can't be that.

The Toshiba also has 7 year old software, I'd imagine?
Newer software, including the operating system, have higher performance requirements. Hence the need for better hardware.
Also, if you don't have the Toshiba at hand to compare, chances are she's remembering it through rose-tinted glasses and the difference is minimal/non-existent. Compared to a phone or tablet (which has an SSD) load times on computers running physical drives do tend to feel quite sluggish.
