on me way home me feckin speakers decided they were gonna blow up grrrr so now i need 2 look at all new speakers!!
do i........ buy mids for the bk wiv mids & tweets up front
or
buy 6x9's again and av mids & tweets up front?
otha suggestions welcome

Drop the 6x9's and the mids in the rear..
Spend the extra cash on a well nice set of front comps... if you don't have a sub get one 12" or 15" and amp the lot up.
use a 4 channel if your working on a budget, other wise a good class D mono and a 2 channel for the front..
Thats all you need... set up correctly it will sound sweet as...

Before you waste anymore cash you need to work out why all youre speakers 'blew-up'. Its well rare for them to all go at once, so either they are all ok and your source has blown up or something happened to the source to make them 'blow-up' lol.
Do some good research before you empty youre wallet again...

2b honest the rear speakers were on their way out anyway and now they av completely died upon me! just had a new Headunit fitted 4x60watt....
already got a 12" pioneer sub in da boot

How do speakers become 'on their way out'?? Answer is that they usually dont! Speakers are driven by electromagnetic voice coils, the coil is usally either fine OR burnt out, VERY rare is it an inbetween state!
Now thats not to say that the cone/spider could of been torn or damaged and was gradually getting worse but that too is really rare on a midrange unit. What do you mean that they were 'on their way out', did they sound awful? Have you been running your h.unit on its MAX volume setting...

1. NEVER run a h.unit or amp at MAX gain setting! It will clip or 'crackle' and burn out your speakers.
Forget the rear, buy a set of reasonable compents for up-front and amp them up properly. Thats where you should concentrate! Start from front to back.

because usually music is heard from the front i.e at a concert.
you never listen to music from behind, always in front 
also bass is non directional, so it doens't matter where the sub is.

Common sense... where do you sit in the car... the front. This is where you need to spend most time setting up your system. Fall at this hurdle and you'll never make it! Any gimp can throw a ported box in the back with two 12's and a class D amp and 'tump' the local 'hood'. For me its about more than that...
