What are the reasons for the thick material underneath the bonnet? Is it purely for sound deadening, as i guess it dont do much for heat dissipation does it??? Should i rip it out?

i ripped mine out ages ago, was the first step in keeping a cool engine bay.......

rip it out m8 as u dont need it. U will hardly notice any difference in noise if its there or not

I'm guessing its only the higher spec models that have it anyway.
Its simply for sound deadening.... nothign more

i had wot looked like a 15 tog duvet under mine so that came straight out
