Dunno but has anyone broke the white stuff off a spark plug & flicked it at a glass window?? I was told about it when i worked in a scrap yard so i had a go, scared the life out of me.

yes it breaks it silently

i tried it at school at a teachers car

when my mum asked me why i did it i said i felt like it so she squirted tomatoe sauce in my hair, she looked at me and said "i felt like it"

In answer to your question:

Fault: The electrodewill break off due to pre ignition

Check: for correct heat range and as for 'overheating'

Thats from the back page of the haynes manual.

If your talking about the white stuff breaking off, thats caused by detonation or the wrong gap setting.

its not a turbo though its a 2.0 williams engine thats in the megane coupe

i have no idea although we did work out it was only meant to have superunleaded only in and was bein run on just unleaded. would this of been the problem?

how u find out if its fuellin ok?

although if ya using a lower octane fuel than you should shurely it would ignite later rather than sooner!!! I dont know really just trying to help

Right, i think the standard unleaded is definately the problem!

Higher ocatne fuel like 98 ron has aditives in it to STOP it combusting at lower pressures. If you have an engine with a fairly high compression ratio or even a turbo and you put lower octane fuelin then yes it will pre-ignite. It will self combust with the pressure before the spark plug does it.

Just get a few tank fulls of optimax through the car to clear the old stuff out... should be ok after that.
