Right, ive got a totally standard W-Reg 1.6 16v Sport which was for sale but ive now decided to keep and mod. The 1st thing i want to do is make the car more responsive, quicker and sound better... obviously i need a new zorst, new air filter and maybe some new leads and plugs. Am i on the right track and can anyone tell me what are the best bits to get and roughly how much its gonna cost me !? Thanks alot.

Panel filter = £30
Plugs = £8 vaux
Janspeed 4-2-1 manifold £170
Leads = if old ones are fucked whatever new GM ones are.
Not sure on exhausts
Or if you would see more power if you spend £300 odd on the velos inlet manifold with the standard exhaust if you cant afford both.

Cheers lads,
I forgot to mention i am gonna get a full service asap.
The manifold is the bit that goes from the engine to the zorst right, and a 4-2-1 is where it goes from 4 to 2 to 1 pipe yeah ?
Is it possible to get high performance leads and plugs or is it not worth it ?
... and finally... what exactly does the chip do ? i know its engine management but thats about it ...
Dumb questions i know, thanks for your help.

Wouldn't worry too much about the leads, they either work or they don't. Won't affect power.
The chip will adjust the fueling to give more power. And will also raise the rev limit in some cases.

Just noticed but what is the VELOS inlet manifold?

The 1.4 and 1.6 have a very poor inlet manifold (where the air enters the engine).
They are very restrictive and don't allow the optimum air flow into the engine.
The VELOS is a much better replacement which willincrease the bhp allot on your engine. (bit expensive though)

I thought that changing the filter and the zorst sorted out all the breathing problems for the engine!?
Dont think ill be getting a Velos... or a pipercross viper, just looked and its £200. feck !!!

Hello Kris, dunno if you remember me from the jarmann park meet last year. I had the standard red 1.4 Sri and we raced to the A1 at the end of the day...
Anyway, so you reckon i should drill the air box and get a panel filter ? i would probably fuk it up if i drilled my airbox.

It'll sound fantastic with any exhaust and filter, but i dont like the sound of decat pipes(tho more power) the ecotec inlet may be restrictive but sounds great cos of those swooping inlet pipes.
run it like that for a while and by the time your bored your ncb's will get you a faster vauxhall!

yep i agree with above i have a 1.4 16v sport
got janspeed 4-2-1 manifold and powerflow cat back zorst
pvd bfo cone
ecotek cb-26k thingy
lexmaul inlet manifold currently bein fitted
gsi crank etc
sparkrite leads an plugs
shrick cams not fitted yet
unichip not fitted yet
engine standard on rolling road produced 92.08 bhp and 94 ibf.ft of torque
with all mods above exhaust manifold is usually 5-6%,catback zorst 4-8bhp,
ind kit 1-2 if lucky lexmaul inlet 10-15 bhp, cams 8bhp,chip 5-10bhp
with all the above i should see 125-130 bhp
but u have a 1.6 so with all the above u may see 135-145bhp m8y
i may be wrong by the way so dont moan any1 lol

Holy Sh1t !!! 125-130bhp from a 1.4 16v ?
I doubt i'd do all that coz of £££'s but certainly will look into filter, zorst and manifold.
Oh and im also planning on keeping my standard 3 spoke wheels (yeah i know) and slammin it.
Opinions ?

Hey m8..
My 1.6 story..
keep it well serviced.
I'vr got full magnex zorst + decat
Have had 2 diff kind of induction kits on it and what ever ppl say fuck the panel filter route..Induction sounds great..
Been rollin roaded at 113 bhp wi a apex ind kit on it.
I got 118 bhp wi full magnex zorst decat..pvd ind kit cold air feed direst from kamei grill..
Day b4 it was on rollers had service...plugs.leads,oil,oil filter, full flush out etc...
if I keep it next is a chip to get it all running smooth then maybe think about inlet..Mantzel etc.......
But deffo get zorst..I luv my decat too......
hope that help from another 1.6 owner..Just my experience like..Other ppl will argue wo it..
As always...

Mine was rolling-roaded at 114bhp and 110lb-ft torque...
That's a 1.6 16v Sport, with decat Powerflow (avoid these, at ALL costs, I've learned that lesson the hard way) and PVD's BFO cone-filter (need to sort a proper air-feed, really, since there isn't one at the moment).
Am back to standard exhaust with cat at the moment, though, due to both MOT and this being the current state of the Powerflow exhaust (which is why I'm saying everyone should avoid them).

For the cost of a decent exhaust system you could get the velos inlet replacement which will give you much much more power.
