I'm looking at getting one of these bad boys.
http://www.regal-shop.co.uk/asps/ShowDetails.asp?id=1718
Only thing I read somewhere that you can lose performance by having an exhaust with such a big bore. Is this true? I've got a 1.2, so performance isnt a big factor, but am I going to get any other problems with this exhaust?

Course you loose power you dweeb, your engine needs back-pressure to work properly

With a standard engine you will get + 0 BHP
That type of exhaust is for high rev engines/Group A, powerful engines.
Mine is a 1.4 16v with 115 bhp, the engine revs faster, but the power stayed the same.
Those exhausts are expensive (if Stainless), if you want power get an inlet manifold from DBilas +20 bhp

Did I say I wanted performance? no
I asked would I lose power. I plan engine mods as well by the way. But not quite yet.
And STFU Sting.

you'll lose low down torque, but gain power higher up the rev range.

2.5 inch is far too big for a 1.2

Should I be looking at just getting the backbox then? or just forget about Bastuck altogether and get a Scorpian system when they finally announce one?

Ill let u know what its like, getting it fitted on thursday hopefully, got it in a box beside me the now and the bore looks huge The back box behind the tail pipe sits at a funny angle tho. Normal back boxes sit horizontal, this one sits vertical. The tailpipe still sits horizontal tho.

lol 2.5" bore is way way to big for a little 1.2 mate, either get a backbox or go for a aftermarket system if they do them for ur car

Would getting just the Bastuck backbox be a problem then?

no would be no problem
i would get the system, i was also thinking of going down to regal and getting one from them, however i decided to get the irmscher back box in the end,
To be honist you wont notice much of a difference in the bore sizes in a 1.2
I would get the whole system, but dont expect the gains advertised on their site, as they tested it on a 2.0 Astra coupe, so hardly anything to benchmark it against a 1.2 16v
Hope this helps

I was thinking of going down the engine tuning road as well mind you.
Inlet manifold, chip, nos etc, sounds a bit fun.
Just got to wait till this free insurance runs out. And arrange a few days off for a treck to Southampton

Yeah they are very helpful down there, and they will do all that kinda thing for you,
They had the inlet manifold on disply there in a glass case, Looks very basic for 850 quid
Just tubes of metal welded together
hehe,
